Sara and Jay Shivers
We both grew up in the country, though it was in different states. While Sara was chasing cows in Kansas, Jay was deep in the heart of Texas. After meeting at the University of North Texas in 2008, we married in 2011 and started planning our escape back to the ranch. But, timing is everything, and the opportunity did not present itself until 2014, shortly after our first daughter, Stella, was born.
When Jay had a job opportunity near the family ranch, we packed up and moved with a two month old in a matter of five weeks. Over the next year, Sara was working side by side with her dad, but commuting from where we were living near by. In 2016, we built a house on the ranch so we could be there full-time. We were so excited that the ideas and plans we had been making for five years were finally coming to fruition. Adding to the excitement was the birth of our second daughter, Margot, in 2017.
After living in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, we saw how much people wanted to connect with their food sources. Farmers Markets and CSA’s were sought after; we realized something we had taken for granted, knowing exactly where our beef came from, was something that everyone should benefit from.
We started Salt Creek Meats in 2017 to provide high quality beef directly from the ranch to consumers like you who are looking for the pasture to plate experience. Our customers are welcome to come out to the ranch and see where their beef comes from and get answers to any questions they might have.
